Derived from the Swahili word for love, Zapenda is aptly named.
Powered by our love of beauty and appreciation for artisanship, Zapenda is an African-inspired apparel brand with the mission to connect the African diaspora through fashion – clothing and accessories are made-to-order by expert tailors in the Democratic Republic of Congo using high quality African wax fabrics. The brand is contemporary and accessible, marrying traditional prints with more contemporary styles.
Why I started Zapenda
Zapenda was born out of my journey as a Congolese refugee and my desire to reconnect with the Motherland. What began as a passion project quickly turned into an empowering path to authenticity and social good for my community.
